Meet the Founder
Whitney Johnson is the owner of Whitney Johnson Pilates and a second-generation Classical Pilates teacher based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is dedicated to preserving the integrity of the Classical Pilates method as originally developed by Joseph Pilates.
With a background in the arts and academia, Whitney brings a thoughtful, analytical approach to her teaching. Her own experience using Classical Pilates to recover from a serious back injury shaped her belief in the method as a powerful, corrective, and lifelong practice. Trained through The New York Pilates Studio® and under Pilates elder Jay Grimes, Whitney teaches with precision, clarity, and deep respect for lineage—always with a sense of humor and genuine joy for the work. She continues to study regularly with her teacher, Sandy Shimoda of Vintage Pilates.
